In The Mind of a Petite Shopper

If you are petite, I can only imagine how different your mindset would be when shopping for clothes. If you are NOT considered petite...just close your eyes and imagine chopping 5 inches off your frame. to the mall you go.  Do you think you would probably buy a little differently? I know I would!

I hear time and time again from my petite customers that they feel like they are swimming in fabric when they buy a skirt from a store.  Probably because fit models are 5’10, which means any skirt mass produced for “you” was actually made to fit someone with a completely different shape.

You’ll notice that a lot of this has to do with length. When going for a polished look on someone who is petite, length is key. This is why I’m so careful when choosing lengths on my petite customers. Off-rack options often force petites to choose between fit and length. I love that we can perfect both fit and length in a Sevier Skirt, and to top it all off, we’ll do it in a fabric that turns heads.

So how can you flatter your itty-bitty frame? Petites often like to dress in one color to feel like they aren’t “chopped off”. Therefore, colorblocking in brights may be hard for a petite. But that doesn’t mean your look has to be boring or bland. Instead of sticking to a monotone outfit, try colorblocking in tones that are opposites but complementary… like navy and black, black and brown, or beige and chocolate.

Here is how we colorblocked Jill in a Sevier Skirt and JCrew Tippi Sweater.

Contrary to popular belief, the size of a print is irrelevant in regard to your height IF, and ONLY IF, the fit of the skirt and length is correct. I have put big prints on small skirts and horizontals on bigger frames...and it all looks great. It all just boils down to how much you love the fabric and feeling as though you will get a ton of wear out of the skirt.  So if you LOVE those colors in the big floral print...GET IT… just make sure you get it customized.
